The first out
of the studio is the wicked mix from Montreal's bassiest beat
maker, Poirier. Of
course, the first to hear Poirier's version were also the
first to praise it...
"...
a bombastic version... As soon as I heard the opening bars of
evil house synths chopped into dancehall tempo, I hit my
doopses at Truckback for the exclusive." - Eddie
Houghton/Fader Magazine
"Poirier strips away all traces of the Gearbox riddim so
you can hear every click, yet still maintains the integrity of
the groove. Big up yuh status Mr. GP... a job well done."
- Boomshots.com
"[Poirier's] version of Click Mi Finger sees him back
where he operates best (hip hop tempo) with a stripped-back
and broody club killer." - Bruk
Magazine
First
recorded by Erup in 2007, “Click My Finger” led a trio of
Jamaican chart topping dancehall songs on Truckback’s
Gearbox Riddim (Erup “Click My Finger, Deva Bratt “Bag Of
Talking”, Harry Toddler “Don’t Run In”). From there
“Click My Finger” took over the Caribbean as well as the
BBC 1Xtra Dancehall chart (United Kingdom), the New York and
South Florida Reggae charts (USA) and the Jamaican Music
Countdown (Jamaica) then landed among the top ten on HOT97,
New York’s influential urban radio station, before settling
in for an 11-week stay on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop
100 chart in late 2008/early 2009.
Truckback
Records is proud to work with these talented and creative
artists to make "Click My Finger" come alive
again...

LUNICE

|
Lunice is just
that dude.
Anyone who has seen this charismatic shy guy come to life on stage
will testify that he is the truth. It was just over a year ago that
Lunice started bumping his own beats at the Bass Culture + Turbo
Crunk nights, and in that short amount of time the music he creates
has come full circle, from a burgeoning hiphop producers bedroom, to
a deep current club sound, and settling somewhere right in the
middle, with a twist of blips and soundclips.
He has juice.
And Lunice loves to make people get down to it.
Lunice
love…
“Lunice seems
to churn out remixes in his sleep and big beats overnight. Good
thing, because 2009 just might be Mr. Fermin Pierre II's time.” -
Pitchfork.com
"Lunice
Fermin Pierre II is many things. The prolific Canadian young gun
first found net celebrity with his cult YouTube dance videos, his
intergalactic B-Boy stance scored by the beat pack"
- Dazeddigital.com
“Golden boy of
the Mofomatronix, Megasoid Turbo Crunk family, Lunice will get
everyone – from hipsters and Sunday gangsters to trust fund kids
– losing it on the dance floor.”
- AP/Pop Montreal

Stepping out
from behind the critically acclaimed duo that is Thunderheist
(alongside the seductive vocals of Isis), Grahmzilla has quickly
established himself as one of the go-to beat makers in North
America. In addition to securing a crucial spot on the Oscar-winning
movie, The Wrestler (yes,
it is to Thunderheist’s “Jerk It” that Marisa Tomei
undresses), Grahmzilla has produced for Santigold, Love And Electrik
and the tres popular
Parisian party people, TTC.
Thumbs
up for Thunderheist…

way” - HHC

“A
superb power pack of crunked-up, fidgety hip house. Best believe

POIRIER
myspace.com/poiriersound |
The power of DJ/producer Poirier’s
bass will blast through any flimsy attempt to classify his music.
While the purists struggle to label his sound as either dancehall,
soca, or electro, Poirier, signed to Ninja
Tune, just takes what needs from all three and unleashes the
result in a raw dance floor frenzy. Poirier’s tracks are sparse
landscapes of Caribbean drums made superhuman with pulsating,
pitch-shifting, and infectious bass and synth patterns. His style
evolves and tears through new genres constantly, leaving a trail of
packed, chaotic dance floors in its wake.
In the past Poirier collaborated with
MC’s and DJ’s from across the globe working with electro
sensation Crookers,
Jamaican dancehall legend Burro
Banton, UK reggae sensation YT,
long time collaborators Face-T
& MC Zulu, and
dj/rupture (Tigerbeat6)
while his tracks for UK grime/hip hop sensation Lady
Sovereign (Def Jam), Bassnectar,
Pole, Buck 65, The Editors
and Champion earned
him critical acclaim from Pitchfork, The
Wire and XLR8R
Magazine.
Poirier Praise:
"Poirier,
the man who seamlessly unites just about every genre." – The
Fader
“Poirier’s music is the sound of a new Montreal.” - Exclaim

Nick's
expertly-sequenced mixtapes have the Chicago Reader calling him
“tastemaking royalty who can break an act single-handedly,”
while his blends, remixes, and re-edits get spun everywhere from
blog radio to commercial stations like Power 106 in Los Angeles. A
featured guest at The Rub in Brooklyn (”Best Party To Dance
Sweatily To Smart Music” - Village
Voice), Nick also helped launch
the beloved Superfriends bash at Milk in San Francisco (”Best
Serial Party” - SF Weekly). On the production side, his tracks
have been featured on compilations and vinyl including The Rub’s It’s
The Motherfucking Remix series (”Motherfucking brilliant” - Pitchfork) and the acclaimed Clipse mixtape “We Got The Remix.” Despite
this schedule, he still finds time to make major moves with Fool's
Gold, the trendsetting record label he co-founded with A-Trak that's
been responsible for introducing new talent like Kid Sister to the
world.

ABOUT
TRUCKBACK

myspace.com/truckbackrecords |
While
Jamaican culture is known for its ingenuity, Truckback Records has
taken resourcefulness to an entirely new level. Founded by brothers
Steve, Andrew and Adrian Locke, Truckback Records is just what it
claims to be, a recording studio built inside the cargo compartment
of a retired container truck.
That was in 2006. Since then, Truckback has grown up fast.
The Gearbox Riddim notched three #1 songs in Jamaica (Erup “Click
My Finger”, Deva Bratt “Bag A Talking”, Harry Toddler
“Don’t Run In”), a spot on the Billboard Hot 100 R&B/Hip
Hop chart (Erup “Click My Finger”) as well top ten hits in
London, New York, Miami and Japan, “Rhythm of the Year”
nominations in 2007 and 2008 as well as a nod for 2008 Producer of
the Year by the EME and HYPE-TV Awards committees. Shout outs from
Fader and XLR8R magazines have minted the studio’s unique place in
reggae and dance culture worldwide. TruckBack still runs on the
grassroots, creative energies of brothers Steve and Adrian Locke,
proof of which is evident in projects like the Ole Axle (2008),
Clutch (2008), Springblade (late 2008) and Dash Board (2009) riddims
as well as their innovative roots project featuring the conscious
DJ, Baijie.
In the meantime, TruckBack will be driving reggae, dancehall
and simply good music to new levels on the way.
