“CLICK MY FINGER” (TRUCKBACK RECORDS) DEBUTS ON THE BILLBOARD CHART

May 5, 2009. TruckBack Records is proud to announce yet another major milestone for the groundbreaking single, “Click My Finger”, by Jamaican dancehall reggae artist, Erup (watch the video). On November 8, 2008, Erup added the prestigious Billboard Hot 100 R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart to an already impressive collection of noteworthy chart positions. His Billboard debut at #94 follows a series of #1’s on reggae charts worldwide, including the BBC 1Xtra Dancehall chart (United Kingdom), the New York and South Florida Reggae charts (USA) as well as the Jamaican Music Countdown (Jamaica). Set against TruckBack’s Gearbox riddim, Erup’s captivating Jamaican style of storytelling creates a persuasive party groove in any language. The combination pushed the song into the top ten among overall spins at New York City’s influential Rhythmic radio station, HOT 97. And underlining its increasing popular appeal, “Click My Finger” was also recently selected for a feature in the October 15th episode of “So You Think You Can Dance Canada”, Canada’s #1 new Fall television show watched by an average of 1.36 Million viewers on CTV, Canada’s largest private television broadcaster.

“Click My Finger” is the lead single on TruckBack Records’ breakthrough Gearbox Riddim, whose seductive dancehall vibe established a new trend in Jamaican music. Nominated for 2007’s Riddim of the Year, the Gearbox reached #1 on the reggae charts for a second time with Harry Toddler’s “Don’t Run In” and included standout tracks from Beenie Man, Elephant Man and Vybz Kartel.

DIGITAL SINGLES FROM THE XTERMINATOR VAULT – VARIOUS ARTISTS (XTERMINATOR)

Digital Singles From The Xterminator Vaults contains outstanding efforts from Turbulence, Buju Banton, Gentleman, Lutan Fyah, Sizzla, Luciano, Ras Shiloh, Beres Hammond and more, whose musical atmosphere is reminiscent of Xterminator productions such as Sizzla’s Black Woman and Child and Luciano’s Messenger, seminal albums that allowed roots consciousness to reclaim its rightful place in reggae and world music circles internationally.

Here, on Digital Singles From The Xterminator Vaults, the combination of Bunny Rugs & Lutan Fyah on “Africa” sets the tone for the album while Buju Banton’s relentless energy on “O My Father” captures the prevailing upbeat dancehall vibes. “Let Love” from Luciano and “Goodness And Mercy” from Sizzla and Ini Kamoze both recapture the style that made them who they are today. Versatility has always been a hallmark of Phillip “Fattis” Burrell’s Xterminator record label and Jack Radics & General Degree show Fattis hasn’t lost his touch on “Lover’s Question”, a seamless combination of Jack Radic’s vocal range and General Degree’s deejay skills. Two contributions from international lover’s reggae icon Beres Hammond, “Woman Of My Life” and “You Don’t Know Me” make Digital Singles From The Xterminator Vaults a sweet departure from conventional Xterminator releases that have focused on in-house artists. Jimmy Riley’s “I-O” is a playful play on words and Ras Shiloh offers a crucial take on the importance of “Faith And Hope” in his signature roots and gospel style.

The range and depth of Xterminator productions means one doesn’t have to dig deep to find the hits. However, sometimes one does have to wait patiently for the hits to be released. Thankfully, Digital Singles From The Xterminator Vaults will meet the conscious and dancehall needs of reggae and urban music fans alike for a long time to come.

STREETWISE/DUBWISE – VARIOUS ARTISTS (KIRKLE DOVE)

Streetwise/Dubwise, from Jamaican producer Kirkle Dove (Mr. Vegas “Tek Way Yuhself”) is an  innovative dub album featuring a lively dub blend of dancehall, reggae, soca and rock music.  Streetwise/Dubwise crosses definitions of genre and places the producer, Kirkle Dove, within the category of artist, much like King Tubby, Scientist and others have done with roots reggae. Kirkle Dove is the first to experiment in this way with modern dancehall beats.

On Streetwise/Dubwise, Kirk Bennet brings together Anthony B, Toots Hibbert (of Toots & The Maytals), Mr. Vegas, sax maestro Dean Fraser, dancehall artist Determine and others in a unique blend of crucial groovy reggae vibes on the album itself. This time however, Bennett steps out of the traditional producer role and takes the music to places it hasn’t been seen in years. Combining the essence of Kingston, Jamaica’s street culture and the dub/remix genre, Streetwise/Dubwise presents a clever and thoughtful take on current reggae and dancehall music.

On “Peanut Man” Toots Hibbert and Kirkle Dove create a refreshing international sound by fusing vintage vibes with modern production. The track “River Bed”, featuring Aisha Davis, is Bennett’s dub reprise of his smash Dutchpot Riddim, the same riddim that launched Mr Vegas hit “Tek Weh Yuhself” in 2008, and is sure to take over the dancefloor again. Not to be left out, Mr. Vegas returns with “Daggering”, a playful, mento induced track to make even the stiffest of hips move to the beat. In short, Streetwise/Dubwise will have something for reggae fans looking for a new sound, dub fans waiting for the next Jamaican dub producer to make a mark and dance goers hunting for original beats to move along to.

ANTHONY RED ROSE – MY NAME IS RED ROSE

The conscious dancehall artist whose world-class production work (Terry Linen, Beenie Man, Capleton, Bounty Killer, to name a few) cut into his own recording time is proud to release his first album in over ten years. With solid dancehall classics already in his songbook, (‘Tempo’, ‘Under Mi Fat Ting’, and his current hot video No AK Love) the 16 selections on My Name Is Red Rose are quintessential Anthony Red Rose who is on a mission to teach another generation of youth the importance of love over guns.

Welcoming such reggae luminaries Anthony B, Dean Fraser, Bounty Killer, Sly and Robbie, Brian Gold, Jack Radics and Mega Banton as well as dancehall’s bright new producers like Caspa ‘Hotwire’ (Banner & Eagle Eye rhythms), My Name Is Red Rose is a carefully composed album drawing from dancehall and lovers rock as well as roots and culture all flavored with Red Rose’s enthusiasm for R&B, pop and rock.

A storyteller and teacher at heart, Anthony Red Rose crafts lyrics calculated to strike a chord with his listeners. On the dancehall hit ‘Gangstaz Paradyze’ produced by Sly & Robbie, Red Rose skillfully compares paradise to the cemetery to demonstrate how ‘gangsterism’ represents a choice of death over life. Highlighting cleverness and creativity in contrast to crime and violence, Rose stirs up a roots groove and reminds us to keep to the path of righteousness, regardless of whether ‘a-yard or abroad’ on ‘Yardie’. The album’s title track, ‘My Name Is Red Rose’, captures Rose’s distinguished production and soulful vocal style, weaving a playful web of compassion and satisfaction, ‘because the ladies always love a rose.’

Anthony B, Bounty Killer and Jack Radics all add their signature styles on ‘Dancing’, which reinforces Rose’s message to leave crime and guns behind and ‘dance to your own heartbeat.’ Brian Gold adds sweet harmonies to the emotional ‘Trust’,while Sly & Robbie meld their More Baltimore rhythm to the tune. More romantic tangles flavor ‘Sugar Your Coffee’ and ‘No Other Like Me’, where Rose and Bounty spar over the lucky lady who is ‘enchanted by love.’

Growing up Spanishtown Jamaica, Anthony ‘Red Rose’ Cameron started his career with the Sir Duncan sound system, eventually making his way to the immortal King Tubby’s where he recorded the dancehall mega-hit, ‘Tempo’ in 1985. Bunny Lee, a regular at Tubby’s, took Red Rose under his wing and from that point on the artist’s career took off.

Known within the industry for his superior album production – Terry Linen’s Call On A Friend, Bounty Killer’s ‘Guns and Roses’ and Fabbi Dolly’s ‘Peanut Punch’ as well as countless 7″ riddims like Quarter to 12, Bedrock, the killer Tempo rhythm and huge hits by Prezident Brown, Marcia Griffiths, Anthony B, Morgan Heritage and Tanya Stevens on Rose’s Honeycone rhythm – ‘My Name is Red Rose’ demonstrates Rose is fully as comfortable behind the microphone as he is manning the production board.

‘My Name Is Red Rose’ will appeal to reggae devotees and music lovers worldwide with its close attention to positive, conscious reggae vibes and a crucial combination of live music and modern reggae beats.
